- A sheath consisting of 3 layers surrounds the gel-like substance in the middle of the eye, which resembles a ball in structure. The outermost part is the white part called sclera, the innermost part is called retina and allows us to see, and the uvea is in the middle. Inflammation of the uvea is called uveitis.
Early diagnosis; It is extremely important due to low vision and possible complications.
Symptoms
- Decreased or blurred vision,
- Eye pain (Pain may sometimes not be visible),
- Sensitivity and glare to light,
- Bloodshot eyes,
- Spots in the visual field,
- Flies or spot flies.
Reasons
Although the cause is not found in most cases, viruses, fungi and parasites can cause uveitis in some patients. It also triggers uveitis in diseases in other parts of the body, such as arthritis and Behcet’s disease.
Treatment of Uveitis
In the treatment of uveitis, especially steroid (cortisone) and pupil dilating drops are frequently used.
Depending on the type and severity of uveitis, medication is administered in the form of drops, tablets or intraocular injections. In cases of inflammation deeper in the eye, systemic (oral) medications may need to be used. These drugs can have serious side effects and must be taken under very strict control. Frequent and good monitoring of patients is very important because some important findings emerge during monitoring. As a result of close monitoring, necessary changes in diagnosis and treatment can be made very quickly according to new developing conditions.
